VPRS 4658 Register of Financial Returns and Estimates

The Department of Railways and Roads (VA 2875) succeeded the Department of Roads and Bridges (VA 2694) in 1872 when the Secretary of the Department of the Railways also became the Secretary of the Department of Roads and Bridges.The records in this series consist of letterpress copies of returns and estimates prepared each year for the Commissioner of Audit. These are concerned with the administration of the Department, the costs associated with the administration and distribution of tolls and the costs associated with the works carried on by the Department itself for the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and railways.VPRS 4658/P was reserialised in 2001 as part of the ARAD Project. The former unit 1 is now VPRS 12680/P1 unit 1, and the former unit 2 is now VPRS 4658/P unit 1.
