Minguannan Pottery

A Minguannan pot sherd recovered during the 1943 archaeological excavation of precontact period sites along the Susquehanna River in Cecil County, Maryland by Richard Stearns and the Natural History Society of Maryland. Minguannan is a Late Woodland period ware, characterized by sand, quartz, or grit temper and cord-marked or fabric-impressed exterior surfaces, and broad line, incised direct cord and pseudo cord decoration. Minguannan dates from ca. 1200 – 1650 AD and is found throughout northern Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania, and the Piedmont and Coastal Plain region of northern Maryland.
