A Porcine Model to Study the Effect of Neurologic Death (ND) on Kidney Genomic Responses. Sus scrofa

We investigated the porcine kidney genomic response six hours after brainstem herniation. This study begins to identify the kidney underlying molecular mechanisms associate with the inflammatory process following neurologic death (ND), a first step towards optimizing the organ for successful transplant. Overall design: Twenty porcine were randomized into two groups: a control group (burr hole, catheters, and anesthesia only) and a ND group (control intervention plus inflation of subdural balloon catheter and confirmation of ND).
