Integrating local traditional knowledge and subsistence use patterns with aerial surveys to improve scientific and local understanding of the Iliamna Lake seals.

The dataset provides a summary of data obtained (1) through aerial surveys of the abundance and seasonality of seal presence in Iliamna
lake, Alaska between 2011-2013; (2) through interviews with local community members to gather information about their use of seals from the
lake, and their understanding of the seals' biology and ecology, and (3) from tissue samples collected from seals harvested by locals in Iliamna
lake. These datasets were archived as part of the North Pacific Research Board legacy project recovery effort undertaken by Axiom Data Science and NPRB in 2025. The goal of the recovery effort was to assess the NPRB-funded data projects from 2002 to 2014 and archive final data packages that were ready for publication to increase long-term accessibility and discoverability. Data packages were archived as is given limited funding and resources.
