资源简介:
Andaman and Nicobar is group of islands that present along the Bay of Bengal on the western side and the Andaman Sea on the eastern side. This is the location of one of the major modern carbonate systems in India. Here fringing coral reefs surround the islands. In this study, we analyzed unconsolidated sediments collected from the southern Andaman and Swaraj Dweep shallow margins (Upto 15 m), which are part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The collected grab samples were wet-sieved and classified into different size fractions. The sediment sizes were categorized into different fractions: gravel (> 2 mm), coarse sand (0.5–2 mm), medium sand (0.25–0.50 mm), fine sand (0.125–0.25 mm), very fine sand (0.063–0.125 mm), and mud (< 0.063 mm). The sand in these areas is primarily composed of biogenic carbonate grains, primarily from coral, coralline algae, mollusks, and foraminifera. Two specific fractions (0.25–0.5 mm and 0.125–0.25 mm) were selected for component analysis. The predominant sediment type falls within the grainstone facies based on the mud percentage. The data are uploaded here as Excel files 1) Grain size data south Andaman 2) Grain size data Swaraj Dweep 3) sediment component from south Andaman (0.25-0.5 mm) 4) sediment component from south Andaman (0.125-0.25 mm) 5) sediment component from Swaraj Dweep (0.25-0.5 mm) 6)sediment component from Swaraj Dweep (0.125-0.25 mm) 7) Facies from south Andaman 8) Facies from Swaraj Dweep.
