E. casseliflavus is not frequently isolated from clinical specimens, with the rates of less than 1.3%.It is an opportunitic pathogen, which means it targets persons who are immunocompromised or chronically ill and is sometimes are nosocomially acquired.Although the infection of E. casseliflavus is not common, it can be seriously invasive if infection occurs. Recently, E. casseliflavus has been increasingly implicated in infections and hospital outbreaks. E. casseliflavus is associated with a wide variety of invasive infections in humans, such as endocarditis, bacteriemia, endophthalmitis, and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis.
