Otolithic organs and vibratory sensitivity in frogs: do saccular otoconial volumes vary according to lifestyle?

This data-set of 8-bit JPEG files represents CT scans of the heads of 15 Xenopus laevis frogs (XL11 to XL25 inclusive). Each folder includes a CT parameter settings text file (.xtekct) which contains the voxel size. These CT scans were made by Matthew J. Mason at the University of Cambridge Biotomography Centre, as part of a project entitled "Otolithic organs and vibratory sensitivity in frogs: do saccular otoconial volumes vary according to lifestyle?". An original journal article of this title has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Comparative Physiology A. The authors are Matthew J. Mason, Sandra Goutte, Piers J. Seal, Marius Kluonis & Jakob Christensen-Dalsgaard. These frogs were originally from a breeding colony at the University of Cambridge, UK. They had been obtained as frozen corpses, having been previously used in laboratory classes and other studies. No animal was harmed for the purpose of this project. Some of these scans were made of defrosted specimens. Other scans were made having immersed the same specimens for 48 hours in 10% unbuffered formalin, diluted from 37-41% formaldehyde solution stabilised with ca. 12% methanol.
