Temperature profiles from MBT casts from the CASTLE ROCK from Ocean Weather Station D (OWS-D) in the North Atlantic Ocean from 15 September 1964 to 15 October 1964 (NODC Accession 6400056)

Bathythermograph data were collected from the CASTLE ROCK within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station D (4400N 04100W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard from 15 September 1964 to 15 October 1964. The platform was equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html.

The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using the mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) instrument. The maximum depth of MBT observations is approximately 285 m. Therefore, MBT data are useful only in studying the thermal structure of the upper layers of the ocean. Cruise information, date, position, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Temperature data in this file are recorded at uniform 5 m depth intervals.

UBT文件格式用于存储通过机械式海水温度深度记录仪（mechanical bathythermograph，简称MBT）获取的海洋温深剖面数据。MBT观测的最大探测深度约为285米，因此该类数据仅可用于研究海洋上层水体的热结构特征。每份观测记录均包含航次信息、观测日期、位置坐标及时间信息。数据记录由多组温深数值对组成，本文件中的温度数据以每5米的均匀深度间隔进行存储。
