Knowledge and attitudes on infant feeding among Namibian medical students

Understanding the level of knowledge and attitudes of medical students on breastfeeding provides an avenue for interventions that aim at providing them with adequate training on breastfeeding to future health professionals. We aimed to determine the attitudes on infant feeding and knowledge of breastfeeding among themedical students at the University of Namibia, Namibia. We conducted a cross-sectional survey of the medical students at the University of Namibia, Hage Geingob Campus, Namibia. Study participants who consented and from any year of study were included in the study by stratified random sampling based on the year of study. Interviews were administered through a pretested anonymous online questionnaire powered by google forms over 1 month. The questionnaire used contained information on student demographics, an adapted Iowa Infant Feeding Attitude scale to assess attitudes on infant feeding, and items to assess their knowledge on breastfeeding.
