To confirm that these samples do not initially contain SEC1, we adopted strict pre-screening procedures. Before spiking, the samples were tested using two highly sensitive and specific analytical methods. One is “chemiluminescence immunoassay for staphylococcal enterotoxin C1 based on the use of dye-encapsulated mesoporous silica nanoparticles”. This method has been validated to ensure the accuracy and reliability in detecting the presence of SEC1. For detailed steps, please see Reference 1. The other is the CLEIA method in this manuscript. In addition, three replicate analyses were conducted to minimize the possibility of false negatives.
