The LIVECell (label-free in vitro cell image examples) dataset is a large-scale microscopy image dataset dedicated to instance segmentation of individual cells in 2D cell cultures. LIVECell comprises 5,239 manually annotated and expert-validated Incucyte HD phase-contrast microscopy images, containing a total of 1,686,352 annotated individual cells across eight distinct cell types, with an average of 313 cells per image. LIVECell images are pre-split into training (3,188), validation (539), and test (1,512) subsets. Each split is further stratified by the eight cell types. The training set additionally features subsplits with varying sizes (2%, 4%, 5%, 25%, 50%) to enable ablation experiments on dataset size.
