Two rat heart models were used to investigate differential gene expression during heart failure. In the first model transgenic Ren2 rats were used that overexpress mouse renin, resulting in hypertension and finally in heart failure development. These animals were compared to their genetic background, sprague dawley. In the other model a myocardial infarct was induced by permanent ligation of the left coronary artery . Control animals obtained a sham operation. Animals were sacrificed 9 weeks post-MI
