资源简介:
Background: The purpose of this study was to develop and implement COVID-19 testing approaches in highly disadvantaged public school settings to reduce barriers to testing and support a safe return to in-person learning among vulnerable student populations. The study sought to understand test preferences, school needs, and the added value of pairing testing with tailored medical consultation and communication support. Materials/Methods: The study used a mixed-methods approach that included a verbal test preference questionnaire, parent surveys, parent interviews, and staff interviews. Secondary data sources included school test enrollment rates and absenteeism data. A formative needs assessment guided the testing approach, and testing services were augmented with tailored medical consultation and targeted communication strategies delivered in the school setting. These data were used to assess preferences, barriers, and school-level needs related to COVID-19 testing and in-person attendance. Outcome/Impact: The study identified key testing barriers, preferred testing approaches, and communication needs among families and school staff. The findings informed testing strategies and highlighted the added benefit of offering medical consultation and tailored communication alongside testing. The results supported improved testing uptake and provided insights into approaches that may reduce absenteeism and strengthen in-person learning in disadvantaged public school settings.
