This research focuses on Eucommia ulmoides, a medicinally significant tree species, aiming to elucidate the molecular regulatory mechanisms underlying its response to drought stress and investigate the role of exogenous melatonin in enhancing drought resistance. By comparative transcriptomic analysis of leaves subjected to control, drought stress, and drought stress with melatonin supplementation treatments, the objectives include: (1) identifying key drought-responsive genes and pathways; (2) revealing the melatonin-mediated regulatory network governing stress tolerance; and (3) discovering candidate genetic resources for improving stress resilience in woody plants. The findings will establish a molecular theoretical foundation for drought-resistant breeding of E. ulmoides, provide valuable insights for enhancing stress tolerance in other economically important tree species, and contribute significantly to sustainable forestry development in arid regions.
