This study suggests that intestinal Ffar4 deficiency leads to increased sugar preference in mice, which may be an important contributor to the development of diabetes. We demonstrated a mechanism affecting sugar preference in mice through gut-liver-brain interactions which B. vulgatus-derived pantothenate mediated GLP-1-FGF21 hormone axis. It provides a preventive strategy for diabetes prevention, while the development of Ffar4 tissue-specific agonists may be a approach for diabetes prevention.
