This series consisted of the minutes of meetings of the Carriage Timber Board. The Board was appointed to inquire into the suitability of timber from south-eastern Australia for the construction of railway carriages and wagons. Surveys of various wood types were undertaken, eg blackwood, mountain ash, blue gum, etc and samples transported to the Newport shop for close analysis.Also contained within the volume are the Minutes of Meetings of the Board Appointed to Enquire into Statements of the Engineer-in-Chief, Respecting Colonial-made Engines (see VPRS 12579). It is unclear why these two series were recorded in the one volume.
