This series contains Subdivisional History Sheets for the City of Moorabbin (VA 656). Applications to subdivide land were provided to Council along with plans and the payment of fees in accordance with the Local Government Act 1958 (Act No. 6299) section 569. Plans were submitted to the council engineer or surveyor for report, after which councils were able to fix street levels or propose roads to be made out before agreeing or refusing to seal the plans with the municipal seal. Plans were not sealed if council believed that they failed to comply with specifications outlined in the Health Act 1958 (Act No. 6270), the Local Government Act 1958, council by-laws, or regulations. Plans of subdivisions within the metropolis (as defined by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works Act 1958 (Act No. 6310), section 3) were referred to the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works for report before being considered by Council. If the council believed it to be necessary, plans were also referred to other statutory authorities providing services such as drainage, sewerage, electricity, gas, water, or telephones.Please note that the plans themselves do not form part of this series. Once council had affixed the municipal seal to the plan, the person who submitted the plan was required to lodge it with the Registrar of Titles.Each Subdivisional History Sheet was numbered, and was divided into the following sections (not all sections were completed):Description (includes owner's name, location, zoning, and map reference numbers)Tentative Plan (space for name of person who submitted plan, date of submission, and date of notification to applicant)Plan of Subdivision (includes name of person who submitted plan, date of submission, maximum sealing date, fee, number of lots, date that Engineer's report was submitted to council, requirements for street construction or drainage, dates that relevant authorities - such as the MMBW, PMG, CRB, SEC and Gas - were notified, date of acknowledgement of notification, and requirements, date sealed by council or date of refusal to seal, reasons for not affixing the municipal seal, correspondence references regarding amendments and sealing, date requirements fulfilled, and date Town Clerk was notified of completion).Street Construction (includes date plans submitted and checked, and name of person who checked the plans, date of submission of specification and schedule, date of engineer's approval, estimated cost, council charges, bench marks, and date construction was completed)Correspondence (includes dates and brief description of correspondence).
