As an instrument of comprehensive, resource-oriented groundwater protection, the Au Water Protection Area is equally geared towards quantitative and qualitative groundwater protection. It includes the usable underground waters as well as the boundary areas necessary for their protection. The water protection areas Au form a central element of the water protection map created and adapted by the cantons, which is forwarded to the FOEN.奥地下水保护区（Au Water Protection Area）作为一项综合性、以资源为导向的地下水保护手段，同时兼顾地下水的定量保护与定性保护。其涵盖可利用地下水资源及其保护所需的边界区域。奥地下水保护区是各州编制并修订的水保护地图的核心组成部分，该地图已报送至瑞士联邦环境办公室（Federal Office for the Environment, FOEN）。
