The Canadian prairie is a large semi-arid steppe landscape, cover 55 M acres of Western Canada. Agricultural management practices are likely to alter carbon dynamics in these soils, which may have important interactions with the soil microbial community. We hypothesize that regenerative agricultural practices will favour microbial communities with greater diversity in taxonomy and function. In this study, we elucidated the impacts of agricultural management practices on soil microbial community composition and function using high throughput sequencing down to a depth of 1 meter.
