The painting, which appears to be watercolor, pictures the two-story adobe of the mission church at center, its bell tower visible attached to it at the left. A small, one-story annex is also pictured at right, extending from the back of the building. What appears to be picket fencing leads up to the church's arched doorway. Handwriting at the bottom of the image reads "Carmel River and Bay. [...] Junipero Serra is buried in the church.".
