To Earn Merit Badges at Catalina Island: Eighteen Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts of Troop 150 (Los Angeles, 'Mt. Vernon District') left here today via United Air Lines for Santa Catalina Island and a 2-day hiking and camping expedition on which they will endeavor to earn merit badges. After arriving at the 1560-foot high airport they will hike ten miles to the Isthmus and camp there overnight. A boat trip around the island on Sunday will complete the expedition; they return tomorrow night.
