The base of an easement is the spatial field (i.e., the geographical area) within which the easement applies. Any other building, whether bare or built, visible from the first or visible at the same time as the first building and situated within a perimeter not exceeding 500 metres, shall be considered to be situated in the field of visibility of a building classified or proposed for classification. Exceptionally, this perimeter can be extended to more than 500 meters. A decree in the Council of State, taken after the opinion of the Higher Commission of Historical Monuments, will determine the monuments to which this extension applies and will delimit the perimeter of protection specific to each of them.When drawing up or revising a local urban plan, the 500-metre perimeter may, on a proposal from the architect of the Bâtiments de France and after agreement of the municipality, be modified to designate groups of buildings and spaces that participate in the environment of the monument to preserve its character or contribute to improving its quality. The perimeter is subject to public inquiry in conjunction with the local urban plan. It shall be annexed to the local town planning plan under the conditions laid down in Article L. 126-1 of the Town Planning Code.
