VPRS 5059 Register of Births in the District of Melbourne (Duplicates)

In 1932 metropolitan registers of Births and Deaths ceased to operate and all registrations in the Melbourne Metropolitan area were effected directly by the Registry of Births, Deaths and marriages (Country registrations continued through local Registrars). Each schedule received by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages was registered with an annual single number according to date of receipt.Schedules received in 1932 were registered by annual number with "M" (Melbourne) prefix.Each schedule contains the following information:- Number.- When and where child was born.- Name of child and whether present or not.- Sex of child.- Name and Surname and occupation of father.- Age and birthplace of father.- When and where father married, together with names and ages of previous issue, living and deceased.- Name and maiden surname of mother.- Age and birthplace of mother.- Signature, description and residence of Informant.- Name of Accoucheur.- Name of occupiers or other witnesses.- When and where registered.- Signature of Registrar.On 1st October 1960 the Registraion of Births, Deaths and Marriages Act 1959 came into operation, combining the registration of both Metropolitan and Country births. The resultant record series has been retained by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
