The Apple Functional Genomics project is an NSF funded project to develop ESTs from apple. The focus is on studying gene expression related to flowering, fruiting and pathogen response. They plan to create an EST database of 120,000 sequences in the first phase of the project. HortResearch, New Zealand along with Genesis Research and Development Corporation has been involved in generating apple ESTs.
