Registry of women's universities in India, Japan, South Korea and the United States, 2008–2025

A registry of the 160 institutions in India, Japan, South Korea and the United States that restricted their main undergraduate programmes to women in any year between 2008 and 2025. Each institution has dated spells of women-only admission, coded as full restriction or as partial restriction with a named reason, and dated events such as founding, coeducation, renaming, merger and closure, marked as occurred or planned. Every spell, event and graduate admission code cites the document it rests on, and was checked against primary sources by an independent audit, whose record is included (audit.csv). The author's check of 60 randomly drawn entries is included (manual_check.csv). Institutions are linked to OpenAlex, the Research Organization Registry and national statistical identifiers (AISHE codes in India, ministry school codes in Japan, KESS school codes in South Korea, IPEDS unit ids in the United States). OpenAlex records that mostly hold other institutions' publications are withheld and documented, and the screening statistics are included (screening.csv). The deposit includes the official counts used for the coverage check and two Python scripts that run the consistency tests and rebuild the yearly membership, the comparison with official counts and the enrolment checks. README.md describes every file and column.
