Electric field problems requiring solution to Laplace's or Poisson's equations in cylindrical coordinates with no azimuthal variation (e.g. coaxial cable discontinuities, electron guns, electrostatic lenses). Acqustics problems requiring solution to the scalar Helmholtz equation in cylindrical coordinates (e.g. Helmholtz resonators); heat-flow problems, plasma simulations, fluid-flow problems.
