Phocaeicola dorei from type 1 diabetes patients

The main aim of the study is the characterization of Bacteroides spp., including B. dorei from children with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) from Algarve (Portugal). The Bacteroides isolates are evaluated regarding their antibiotic susceptibility, ability to degraded mucin, adhere and invade intestinal epithelial cells. The whole genome sequencing will improve our understanding about the genetic features of these isolates. The genome of the isolates will be analysed with a focus on antibiotic resistance genes, metabolic pathways, presence of prophage elements and adaptation to the host gastrointestinal milieu.
