A Study of the Mechanisms of Narrative Information Influence on Parochial Cooperative Behavior

Using the public goods game,, this study explores the mechanisms of narrative description on parochial cooperative behavior through three series of studies to enrich theoretical and empirical research on narrow cooperative behavior. The results found that (1) viewpoint-related narrative description reduced parochial cooperative behavior more than event-related narrative information. (2) Perceived similarity fully mediates the role of narrative description and strong parochial cooperative behavior. (3) Intergroup relations play a moderating role between narrative description and parochial cooperative behavior and strong parochial cooperative behavior. The present study is useful for understanding the effects of narrative description on parochial cooperative behavior in different intergroup relationship contexts.
