Important Plant Areas (IPAs) for useful plants of Colombia

This dataset is linked to the publication "<em>Identifying Important Plant Areas for useful plant species in Colombia</em>" (Kor and Diazgranados, 2023) https://doi.org/10.1016/j.biocon.2023.110187 The occurence dataset (CUPC_nat_COL_230603_clean.csv) contains records for the native species listed in the Checklist of Useful Plants of Colombia (CUPC). These were downloaded from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF, 2022), Botanical Information and Ecology Network (BIEN, 2022), and the virtual herbarium of the Jardín Botánico de Bogotá (JBB Herbarium, 2022). Data were cleaned as described in our methodology. Threat status was based on the IUCN Red List (IUCN, 2021) and the preliminary Red List of Plants of Colombia (received from the IUCN Colombian Plant Specialist Group in June 2021) and use categories were based on modified Level 1 uses of Cook (1995), as applied in the World Checklist of Useful Plants. The shapefile (COL_top_priority.shp) contains the boundaries of the 10 "top pritority" sites, identified as described in our research. Please contact the authors with any questions.
