National Record of the Historic Environment: Historic Land use Assessment

The Historic Land use Assessment (HLA) is a technique for helping understand the historic aspects of the landscape around us from an archaeological perspective. The HLA records the historical origins of the various components that make up the landscape, showing how they interrelate spatially and chronologically, and in doing so offers an insight into some of the processes that have created our modern landscape and enables us to recognise how features that survive from past events continue to influence the present. As such, the HLA is a key tool for understanding the historic landscape and complements other techniques of landscape assessment. In combination these enable a more holistic view of the landscape and its development over time to be achieved and approaches to landscape management and planning to be better integrated.历史土地使用评估（Historic Land use Assessment, HLA）是一种从考古学视角出发，助力人们认知周边景观历史属性的技术方法。该方法会记录构成景观的各类组成要素的历史起源，阐明其在空间与时间维度上的相互关联；借此不仅能够揭示塑造现代景观的部分进程，还可帮助我们认识到过往事件遗留的特征如何持续对当下产生影响。就此而言，历史土地使用评估是理解历史景观的核心工具，可与其他景观评估技术形成互补。将该方法与其他景观评估技术相结合，可实现对景观及其长期演变过程的更全面认知，并助力景观管理与规划路径实现更优化的整合。
