Dataset for: Embryo production in the sponge-dwelling snapping shrimp Synalpheus apioceros (Decapoda, Alpheidae) from Bocas del Toro, Panama

Ovigerous female snapping shrimp (Synalpheus apioceros) were collected from two coastal sites in Bocas del Toro, Panama, August 2011. This dataset reports the carapace length of the female and number of embryos carried by the female. Embryos were categorized into three stages of development. Stage 1 was an almost round embryo with uniform yolk and no eye pigments, Stage 2 was an ovoid embryo with slight eye pigmentation, and Stage 3 was an ovoid embryo with fully developed eyes and abdomen free. Length and width measurements for ten random embryos per female were collected using a stereomicroscope with an ocular micrometer. Embryo volumes were then calculated using the length and width measurements. Measurements are reported in millimeters.
