XylR, a candidate xanthan regulator. knockout mutant was constructed to elucidate the regulatory network in Xanthomonas campestris. Comparative RNA-Seq as well as nano-LC-ESI-MS/MS experiments revealed differentially regulated pathways and an up-regulation of the xanthan biosynthesis gene cluster. transcriptomics and proteomics indicate a complex multi-level cascade regulation with strong and weak binding of the XylR repressor beyond xylan degradation.
