NHTSA vPIC manufacturer census by country and vehicle type, with the Chinese trailer-manufacturer list, captured 9 August 2026

A census of manufacturers registered in the United States National HighwayTraffic Safety Administration's public vPIC database, counted by country and byvehicle type (trailer, motorcycle, passenger car, truck, low-speed vehicle), andthe list of Chinese-registered trailer manufacturers within it. Captured byexhaustive enumeration of the public vPIC API on 9 August 2026. Registration in vPIC follows from 49 CFR Part 566, under which manufacturers ofmotor vehicles and regulated equipment identify themselves to NHTSA. Thedatabase is a self-registration record: it shows who has filed, not who iscurrently in business, and not whether any product complies with a Federal MotorVehicle Safety Standard. Limits that travel with the figures: one capture date; country is the countryrecorded on the manufacturer's own filing, which need not be where manufacturinghappens; entries are never removed when a manufacturer stops trading, so countsare cumulative filings rather than active firms.
