Wheat genome sequencing consortium. Triticum aestivum

The International Wheat Genome Sequencing Consortium (IWGSC) is a collaboration of wheat researchers from the world. The long-term goal of the IWGSC is to obtain a high quality reference sequence of bread wheat cultivar Chinese Spring. There are three approaches being used: 1) low coverage survey sequencing of all 21 chromosomes using now-Gen sequencing techniques on sorted chromosomes and chromosome arms, 2) BAC end sequencing of clones used to construct physical maps and 3) BAC-by-BAC sequencing for high quality sequence of entire chromosomes.
