资源简介:
Black and white lantern slide showing a European officer from the King's African Rifles sitting in a garetta, a type of rickshaw. The officer wears a khaki jacket with a white shirt, dark tie and khaki shorts, belt, puttees, shoes and a pith helmet. Two other European officers pose behind the rickshaw, although one wears a military hat instead of a pith helmet. An African man stands at the front of the garetta holding its shafts. He wears a dark shirt and shorts and the dark fez of the Nyasaland native troops of the King's African Rifles. Two other men stand behind the garetta in similar attire. On account of the poor state of roads and tracks in Nyasaland, rickshaws and garettas were the main form of wheeled traffic at this time. This slide comes from a set on the activities of the King’s African Rifles battalions in Nyasaland. It was originally held by the Church of Scotland, and generated by J.W MacKay.
