PM1 samples were collected during day (4:00 – 20:00, UTC time) and night (20:00 – 4:00, UTC time) on 150 mm quartz filters (Pallflex Tissuquartz), using a continuous high volume aerosol DHA-80 at 30 m3 h-1 (DIGITEL enviro-sense, Switzerland). Prior sampling, the quartz filters were conditioned at 550 °C for 8 hours and conserved in pre-baked aluminum foil and sealed in plastic bags to remove contaminants. After exposure, samples were conserved in pre-baked and sealed aluminum foils at -20 °C, then transported to the laboratory, where they were punched to smaller fractions (30 mm, 46 mm, 1.5 mm) for chemical analysis. The smaller fractions were also conserved in pre-baked and sealed aluminum foil at -20°C until analysis. Organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) were measured using a thermo-optical analyzer (Sunset, SunLab Inc) on a 1.5 cm2 filter surface following the EUSSAR2 protocol (Cavalli et al., 2010). The Sunset analyzer was calibrated using a sucrose solution (purity > 99.5 %) for different concentrations between 0.42 µgC cm-2 and 40 µgC cm-2, with a limit of detection of 0.25 µgC cm-2 and limit of quantification of of 0.42 µgC cm-2. Prior to each analysis, an instrumental blank and a point at 10 µgC cm-2 were measured as a quality control. OC and EC values per area are automatically calculated with the software OCBC835 (SunLab). Atmospheric concentrations were calculated considering the sampling volumes (m3). The sampling volumes were retrieved from the DHA-80 and are associated to the volume measured by the instrument at ambient conditions of temperature and pressure. Seventy-two samples are available with data starting from June 14 to July 24, reported for day and night measurements in UTC time for OC and EC concentrations with their corresponding uncertainty. Missing data are reported as -9999 values. All samples have an associated name (sample ID).
