Peasant family farming and short agri-food chains: the Municipal Fair of Yuty - Caazapá (Paraguay)

Abstract: The short chains have consolidated themselves as one of the main markets for family peasant agriculture, with emphasis on the holidays of producers. The objective of this study is to describe and to analyze the general characteristics of the Municipal Fair of Yuty and understand the importance of this space for farmers and consumers. This research began with a literature review, secondary data analysis, and an exploratory investigation of four people who, at the time, were part of the fair. Subsequently, a survey was applied to nine producers (all of the people of fair that were on the day) and eleven consumers present at the fair. The results found indicate that the Municipal Fair of Yuty has a great importance among the producers that commercialize in this space, especially because they sell at a satisfactory price all the products they carry. In addition, the fair is very important for the income of producer families and for the promotion of the local market. In this sense, the Yuty fair is a form of market access that benefits farmers and consumers, generating more inclusive processes of development and contributing to food and nutritional security.摘要：短链农业模式已成为家庭小农农业的核心市场之一，其发展尤其依托生产者节庆活动。本研究旨在描述并分析尤蒂（Yuty）市政集市的总体特征，探究该空间对农户与消费者的重要价值。本研究首先开展文献综述、二手数据分析，并对彼时参与集市的4名人员进行探索性调研。随后，针对当日在场的9名商户（即当日集市的全部经营者）与11名消费者开展问卷调查。研究结果表明，尤蒂市政集市在在此开展经营的农户群体中具有极高的重要性，核心原因在于商户可将所携全部产品以满意的价格售出。此外，该集市对农户家庭收入提升与本地市场培育均发挥着关键作用。综上，尤蒂集市作为一种市场准入渠道，既惠及农户与消费者，也催生了更具包容性的发展进程，同时助力粮食与营养安全保障。
