ODS1 - Dataset of sputum smear microscopy images for TuberculosisThis dataset was built from 25 sputum smear slides (S) from different selected patients. The sputum samples from patients suspected of being pulmonary TB cases were prepared by the Kinyoun stain method.Two sets of digital field (DF) images were acquired from each slide (S01 to S25). Each set is called Tile Region (TR1 and TR2). Each TR is composed of 164 DF images. From each DF image, 11 images were obtained:one DF image using autofocus microscope function.ten DF images with different focal depth (5 above and 5 below relative to the position of the autofocus image - Z axis).The images acquired are true-color 24-bit image with 1040x1388 pixels. The images were acquired with a Canon PowerShot A640 digital camera, which couples with a 10-megapixel CCD image sensor with a 4× optical zoom. The microscope used was a Zeiss Axioshop 40. A magnification of 100× and a numerical aperture of 1.25 was used.This dataset has 90,200 DF images resulting from 8,200 stacks of 11 images of the same DF image, acquired at different focal depths. The 6th image in the stack is the autofocus image. It was designed to evaluate algorithms for selecting the best autofocusing measurement, and for evaluating image fusion algorithms, for example. Therefore, the bacilli in the images of the data set are not labelled.The folders are individually stored as tar.gz archives, for a total size of 127 GB.
