Nature of natural, ubiquitously overembossed groundwaters. Achieving a good quality status of groundwater is one of the objectives of the EU Water Framework Directive (EU-WRRL). In this context, among other things, in 2005 the State Geological Services of Germany (SGD) commissioned the background values of groundwater (PK HGW) with the determination and statistical interpretation of background values in groundwater. As a result, a comprehensive overview of the aquifer-related background contents in the groundwaters of Germany was prepared for hydrochemically similar units (HGC). The results and method documentation are provided on the website of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Raw Materials (BGR) (https://www.bgr.bund.de/DE/Themen/Wasser/Projekte/abgeschlossen/Beratung/Hintergrundwerte/hgw_projektbeschr.html?nn=1548666). Some geological services carried out descriptions of the natural groundwater properties in the sense of geogenous background values. The country-specific processing allowed a detailed examination by a greater differentiation of the hydrogeochemical units. The nature of natural, ubiquitously overprinted groundwater in Rhineland-Palatinate was examined on the map of HÜK200 and the results report published in 2012 (https://www.lgb-rlp.de/fachthemendesamtes/projekte/projektliste/beschaffenheit-natuerlicher-ubiquitaer-ueberpraegter-grundwaesser.html). The online map on the nature of natural, ubiquitously overprinted groundwater shows the substance-specific concentrations for the hydrochemical units differentiated in Rhineland-Palatinate. For each hydrochemical unit, the median value (50 % percentile) of the corresponding parameter is given. The given median values represent orientation variables in the assessment of the natural, ubiquitously overprinted groundwater quality and do not replace site-related on-site investigations.
