To assess the interaction of the Escherichia coli KdpD/KdpE two-component system with other regulatory factors involved in K+ homeostasis regulation, the following strains were compared: strain LB2240ΔkdpD, carrying mutations in kdpD as well as in trk and kup, which is unable to grow under K+ limitation, and various LB2240ΔkdpD* spontaneous mutants of LB2240ΔkdpD, which grow under K+ limitation.In order to specify the additional mutations in mutants LB2240ΔkdpD*, whole genome shotgun sequencing of the LB2240 strains was performed on the illumina platform. Paired end sequence reads were generated and aligned to an E. coli reference genome.
