PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine work machine in which a pipe member for directing exhaust gas in a desired direction can be arranged without increasing the number of parts and product weight while preventing position deviation and breakage of the pipe member. SOLUTION: A hedge trimmer 1 includes a body having a driving mechanism which transmits a driving power output from an engine to a blade assembly， a muffler 30 having an inlet where exhaust gas of the engine flows in and an outlet where the exhaust gas flowed in from the inlet flows out， and a tail pipe 40 which includes a first end 40a where the exhaust gas flowed out from the muffler 30 flows in and a second end opposite to the first end 40a， guides the exhaust gas flowed from the first end 40a in a prescribed direction， and discharges the exhaust gas from the second end. The tail pipe 40 is fixed to the body， but not fixed to the muffler 30， while the movement of the first end 40a relative to the muffler 30 is restricted in a prescribed range by a gasket 50.
