资源简介:

On 26 January 1918, the Military Prosecutor of Iași published a notice in Monitorul Oficial al României, the official gazette of the Kingdom of Romania (no. 254, pp. 2858–2859). For some of those killed in the railway catastrophe at Ciurea station on the night of 30 December 1916 (Julian) / 12–13 January 1917 (Gregorian), the particulars of civil status were missing, and death certificates could not be drawn up. The notice listed 121 names and asked families and military units to supply the missing details: age, place of birth, domicile, names of parents, and marital status. That publication was itself the outcome of pressure from the families. On the basis of the notice, a family could ask the local civil-status office to record the death officially and issue a death certificate — the document required to obtain the benefits due to the war dead and to pursue any compensation claim. Without it there was no pension. The list is therefore not the trace of an abandonment but of a sustained demand, and it connects directly to the compensation files against the Romanian State Railways, which run in the archives until 1934. This dataset is a full transcription of that list. IMPORTANT: this is not a list of the victims of the Ciurea disaster. It is a list of 121 of the dead whose deaths could not be officially registered. The total death toll is disputed; the most defensible scholarly estimate is approximately 600–650 (Bianu recorded 568 dead and 756 wounded; the Ciurea stationmaster testified that 560 were buried behind the station). Ciurea remains the deadliest railway disaster in European history. The deposit contains the same material in two forms: a machine-readable CSV with structured fields, and a typeset PDF in Romanian for reading. A source sheet documents provenance and transcription decisions. The transcription follows the printed original. Ranks are given in lemma form in the structured field; name spellings, including ambiguous ones, are transcribed as printed and flagged in the notes column rather than normalised. Entry no. 57 is the only soldier in the list with no unit, village or age recorded. Entries 59 and 65 are two distinct individuals of the same name, not a duplication. Verified line by line against the digitised facsimile on 22 September 2026. Înștiințare."Digitisation: Biblioteca Digitală a Bucureștilor / Biblioteca Metropolitană București, object PID 1028280.Public domain (official government publication, 1918). VERSION 1.1 (26 September 2026) — CORRECTION Version 1.0 stated that no record had been found of any family responding to the 1918 notice. That statement was wrong, and is corrected above: the publication of the names was itself the result of the families' own efforts, and the notice was the instrument they needed in order to obtain a death certificate. The correction is owed to Dorin Stănescu, author of the reference study on the disaster, and is gratefully acknowledged. The transcription of the 121 names is unchanged from version 1.0. Only the PDF and the source sheet have been revised.
