VPRS 5151 Outward Letter Book, Parliamentary Sports Club

This series is a letter book, containing copies of items of outward unregistered correspondence created by the Victorian Parliamentary Sports Club. The Club (which had minor name changes throughout the life of this series, eg Parliamentary Sports and Social Club, Parliamentary Recreation Club, etc) had a duly elected Chairman and Vice-Chairman and a Committee comprised of an equal number of members of each House. It would seem that there were two Joint Honorary Secretaries appointed from the Committee, who were responsible for framing a suitable programme of entertainment.The majority of entries in the letter book are letters written by the Chairman or one of the Secretaries. It would seem that the Parliamentary Sports Club incorporated other clubs, most notably the Victorian Parliamentary Cricket Club, which regularly played matches against the legislature in other states. The subject matter of the majority of correspondence relates to the planned activities of the Club (such as visits to other States, cricket matches with similar State / Commonwealth clubs, resolutions of the Sports Club at its Annual Meeting, etc). Occasionally there are copies of inward correspondence (such as telegrams) pasted into the letter book.(The P1 consignment of this series was previously registered as VPRS 5155 Letter Book of the Parliamentary Cricket Club.)
