SDG 15.2.1 Above-ground biomass in forest (tonnes per hectare) – sustainable forest management sub-indicator

This dataset reports above-ground biomass in Qatar's forests, expressed in tonnes per hectare, and is one of five sub-indicators used in the SDG 15.2.1 dashboard for progress towards sustainable forest management. Above-ground biomass represents living forest biomass above the soil surface and provides information on forest condition, productive capacity and carbon stocks. At country level and over longer periods, stable or increasing biomass per hectare can be consistent with sustainable forest management, while a long-term decline may reflect degradation, unsustainable management or major disturbances such as fire, wind, pests or disease. The value must be interpreted in the context of forest type and local ecological conditions and is not a complete measure of sustainable forest management by itself.
