VPRS 15610 Sale Contract Books, Pastoral Runs Section 98 Land Act 1862

This series consists of the Sale Contract books for the sale of licenses to occupy new and forfeited pastoral runs. Each folder might contain a copy of the conditions of the sale and a listing of the full descriptions of the runs and their locations either transcribed or cut from the Government Gazette notice of the sale. As each lot was purchased, the purchaser signed the book adjacent to that description as the contract of purchase and the total price paid was entered.These sales took place under Section 98 of the 1862 Land Act which stated that land to be occupied for pastoralism whether a new or a forfeited run was to be exposed to auction. The size of the run was to be determined according to carrying capacity. The amount of the rent was to be fixed prior to the sale with the highest bidder to be the licensee for up to 14 years.
