Emerging evidence of facultative parthenogenesis in vertebrates, and especially squamate reptiles, suggests this mode of reproduction is more widespread and evolutionary important than previously appreciated. These sequencing data were used to explore apparent facultative parthenogenesis in the King Cobra (Ophiophagus hannah). Facultative parthenogenesis was confirmed in this species and the mechanisms underlying this reproductive mode were evaluated to provide broader insight into parthenogenesis.
