A method is provided for preparing a film of crosslinked microfibrillated cellulose. Phosphorylated microfibrillated cellulose is cast or wet-laid into a film; and then said film is post-treated (e.g. by heat-treatment) to provide crosslinking between the phosphorylated microfibrillated cellulose.
