Skeletal muscle is adaptable to a direct stimulus of exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD). Relative to the location of damage, we sought to understand how muscle gene networks and systemic circulatory factors respond to EIMD within the subsequent days. In seven young adult male participants, we employed an intra-individual study design assessing transcriptomic changes of vastus lateralis skeletal muscle and venous blood plasma enriched for extra-cellular vesicles at time points of 24 and 48 hours post the EIMD stimulus, as compared to baseline.
