Symbiodiniaceae ITS2 and LSU amplicon sequence reads from Pacific and Caribbean coral colonies. Symbiodiniaceae

Symbiodiniaceae lineages of multiple species of reef-building corals in the Pacific (Moorea, French Polynesia) and Caribbean (Florida, USA) were identified by amplifying the Internal Transcribed Spacer-2 (ITS-2) region of Symbiodiniaceae rDNA. For one species of coral, Porites lobata in the Pacific, the the D1-D2 region of the 28S large subunit (LSU) nuclear ribosomal RNA gene was sequenced instead of ITS2. In the Caribbean, diseased (stony coral tissue loss disease) and non-diseased colonies were sampled; in the Pacific, heat-stressed and non heat-stressed colonies were sampled on the reef and during an aquarium experiment.
