Bacteroides isolate genomes from biofilms taken via colonoscopy

Patients undergoing colorectal cancer screening colonoscopy at the Vienna General Hospital were enrolled in the study, and samples from 24 patients with irritable bowel syndrome, 5 with ulcerative colitis, and 21 controls (with no identified carcinomas at colonoscopy) were included. Brush samples and biopsies were collected during colonoscopy from the ileal or cecal mucosa or ascending colon with or without endoscopically visible biofilms, and were processed immediately for 16s rRNA sequencing and isolation of Bacteroides.
